Natural Hair Journey | PART 1

If you've been to my blog before, you know that I've been contemplating a "Big Chop".

My hair is in it's natural state but I've recently gotten massive hair damage and breakage from stress and pulling my hair (not enough moisturizing & too many days of a lazy top bun) but mostly from heat damage.

My hair has been natural for about 2 years now. The last time I had a relxer was May 2011 (for my high school graduation) and that was when my hair was at it's longest: To my breast & near the middle of my back (I'm 5'8, that is pretty frickin' long man).

Before then... I wore many, many, MANY protective styles but most of the time... I had some form of braids. Actually, I had micros alot - extremely versatile.

Around August 2011, I started college with micros but I got really into making and buying wigs. For a whole year... I think I wore nothing but wigs and the only time I let my hair free was during bedtime.

I decided to move in with my boyfriend at the end of 2012 and then... I started wearing my natural hair out. I had gotten really lazy. I rarely mousterized my hair, I washed it often, and I didn't even try to do protective styles. I'd honestly been either flat ironing my hair or geling it up into a bun. That's it. From October 2012 to right now, July 2013, I've been either straightening my hair or putting it in a bun lol. I'm sorry, I take that back - one time I braided my hair before bed & wore a curly fro the next day because it looked cute and required less work than brushing my hair up before work haha.

Well, after months of personal & financial frustration and lack of hair maintence... I did it - I chopped it all off. Ok, not all of it, but most of it.

Most of my breakage seemed to be localizeed to the center of my head and the hair toward the front of my head still seems pretty healthy so I decided to give myself a pixie cut. I don't plan on showing it off quite yet because I ran into a few problems.

I just moved out of my apartment and into a condo with my mother. I cut my hair under the impression that she still had her clippers. I chopped most of my hair off with scissors and then when I looked for the clippers to begin shaving, they were nowhere to be found! She told me she had gotten rid of them years ago -_-. Wish I knew that beforehand because I look like a patchy mess.

Just think (Rugrats) Angelica's barbie, Cynthia. Lol Being home alone built an adventure for me, so after snooping in my mom's walk in closet _ found the most marvelous supply of Red Heart 100% Acrylic Yarn. You know what I did, right? I started Yarn Dreads! (Most people call'em Yarn Wraps) They're mostly black but I have a patch of red in here and I absolutely love it but... now I'm over it.

I'm a quarter into the hairstyle and I don't want it anymore! I took'em out! I'm having a hair crisis!

I'm about to pull a Britney Spears and just shave it all off!

I'm beginning to think that the issues surrounding my impulsive hair decisions reflect my current situation and emotions.

I plan on posting pics after I correct this massive disater. Also.. I'm posting from my phone so I'll add in the other pics later.

Update: This is what my hair currently looks like. All the areas of breakage have been shaved (back & sides of my hair) and the top has been left long... But I did trim it because it was uneven & I had split ends. Think of this as a "modified" pixie cut, I suppose.

My friend and I are hitting some anime conventions later this year. We're trying to figure out what to wear and I like the idea of a Harley Quinn themed outfit... but then again, I'm also thinking about something Kingdom Hearts themed. I'll probably play with that idea on Polyvore a little later.

BED-freakin-BUGS

"Sleep tight, don't let the bedbugs bite."

Teehee. Cute.

You hear it, you process it, you ignore it.
You get told about them more than once throughout school in health/wellness classes but you still ignore it. You never heed the warnings... and then it happens.

Alright, alright.

Before I get into this story of panic and despair; let me say that, for the record, this would not have happened if I was more stern with my boyfriend. My boyfriend and I are nearing the end of our lease here in our first apartment together. We've been together for almost 2 years, but we've been in this apartment now for almost 9 full months! We've gone from no furniture to a comfortable amount of stuff. We've gone from eating snacks and ramen daily to actually buying groceries. It's been a real learning experience both on the relationship and financial sides.

With that being said, we decided that... we aren't quite ready for this lifestyle yet. We're very independent people and that level of independence is hard to tame, which makes it difficult to maintain things in a home where you need to be a team. We're both going back to college soon and we're both moving back in with our parents.

With only 2 weeks left in our apartment and today being his last day of work; it has been decided that we're going to have a sort of Bon Voyage/Going Away party. I was fine with this idea. I'm an introvert so... the actual idea of a party was a bit nerve wrecking for me but I thought he deserved it. These past months have been his biggest responsibility as a adult to date. He wasn't very good at it, but he tried. He also reassured me that, it's not like a party party, it's more like a get together consisting of friends, drinking, and gaming. Whatever. Fine.

Well, one day around last week he started complaining. He started complaining about not have enough things to please our guests. When I think of a going away party, I think of the guests bringing things to celebrate the person going away, not the other way around. We don't own a couch or chairs, never have. We spend most of our time in the bedroom and we have a few chairs around the dining room table. Never saw a need, never had guests. Most of the games we have are old games and if they're new, we got'em from Gamefly. Well, he basically told me that none of the things we already have is enough. Now, to me... I didn't see the big deal because... we  ARE moving. I don't see how anyone would expect us to have that much stuff in our home anyway because we need to be packed & ready to ship everything off. Days pass and he got over it. Until one day he noticed a couple throwing out a loveseat and a couch.

-PAUSE-
Now doesn't that already sound fishy?
-RESUME-

A day passed since the couple threw out the couch and then he decided that he needed to bring the loveseat in our home. I told him 'no' so many times that I actually started to get pissed off. It came from the garbage; nothing good ever comes from the garbage - that's why people put them there! But he wouldn't listen. Instead he tells me, "Dude. They're probably just like us - moving out and they didn't wanna have to get a U-Haul. It's fine. I only wanna use it for the party then we can throw it back out." I should have told him no from there but I didn't wanna see like some asshole; I've done enough dictating since we've moved in together. I shrugged it off and we used it on a few occasions with a covering over top of it.

Until today.

Today, my boyfriend brought his coworker/friend over to play League of Legends with him; I really hate having company because it requires me to clean & I have to look "presentable" when I'd rather just look like crap in bed, but I digress. My boyfriend told me I should play Devil May Cry since I just got it on Gamefly and haven't played much, so... I said sure. I mean, it's true - I haven't played past the 2nd level. I play the game for an hour while they're playing, then I play for about another 2 hours after they leave for work. I snuggle up on the couch with my blanket that has also been on the couch for a while and keep playing... until I feel this sort of itch behind my ear on my neck. I'm stretching my ears, so I thought it may have just been my taper tickling back there, but it started to annoy me so I touch the spot and I felt what I thought to be a scab. When I picked it off and looked at my finger, there lay a bedbug upside down with its legs kicking. I fucking threw it and controller so fast that my 360 controller disconnected! I could barely breathe from running into my bedroom! I laid on my bed and, literally, had a panic attack.

I felt violated, disgusting, and completely scared. Those things carry diseases! I don't wanna die like this! I called my mom, my doctor, and my boyfriend. I went to the pharmacy and bought stuff and I've been sanitizing my skin since. I got bit or... it sucked my blood. It broke skin! I'm so nervous. I'm just hoping a rash doesn't form & there aren't more of them spreading. I got my boyfriend to come home during his lunch break to remove that infested, trashy ass couch out of here but I still don't feel safe.

So that was my day. How's your day been? Ever gotten attacked by a pest?

Geeky Finds | .O1

So...
Surfing the interwebz lead me to the website Society6. I don't know much about it but from the outside it looks like a place for artists to distribute their work via apparel, accessories, and other random items (like pillows, for example).

A seller by the name of Minty Keaton is selling some awesome Legend of Zelda merch! Is it a coincidence that there's free shipping now thru July 14th? I think not.

This shows all forms of the "Hearts" collection, but I'll still throw up some pics:

Don't be fooled, they also have Samsung Galaxy cases

Free! | Episode 1

If you haven't heard about Free! (Also known as The Swimming Anime), you just simply have not been on the internet. It's EVERYWHERE! I think this is due to the fact that there is nothing but muscular men... in very little clothes... springing out of water... in a slightly seductive manner.
I'm gonna talk about this episode in detail but at the very bottom... I have the entire episode available for your viewing if you wanna watch it first then read my thoughts & opinions ^_^

If you have heard about it, then you know that this anime has been every fangirls fantasy for almost a year and finally, FINALLY, the first episode aired on July 3rd (Yea, I'm a little late...)!

The main character's name is Nanase Haruka. Haru is absolutely addicted to water. Any chance he gets to be suspended in water - he takes it. He even wears his swimming gear all the time; even when he bathes! The first few minutes into this episode is a flash back introducing his "best friends", Makoto and Nagisa, and a new kid (Well, new to the swim club) named Rin in elementary school.

Now he's 17 and it seems he hasn't swam the same way (in a swimming club or relay) since then. From the way they show his attitude and how he relates everything involving swimming to a memory attached to Rin, it's safe to assume he has a lot of resentment toward Rin for leaving Japan for Australia (in pursuit of being a olympic swimmer). It's kind of like betrayal*. Haru & his friends decide to visit a their old swim club before it's torn down & whaddya know? Rin just so happens to be visiting too. Immediately they run to race... but there's no water in the pool. The way they talk to each other is like a love/hate relationship filled with competitiveness which makes it a little difficult on my end to decipher how to interpret their relationship.

*I'm assuming that Haru is an authentic swimmer; he swims because he loves the water and how it makes him feel but Rin is more of a competitive asshole who like to show off & prove how much better he is than anyone around him (He's even in a top notch school made specifically for swimmers!). Simply put, I can see that Haru loves swimming but it feels like he tries to hide his love for it because maybe Rin is his rival & he always outshines him? Maybe he doesn't feel worthy anymore after the squabble they had as children (They keep talking about how Rin showed them "Something you've never seen before", but they just kinda leave us hanging all the way up to the end of the episode... making us wait lol)? They show a scene where they make a time capsule that holds a trophy they won together & before the actual race, they're stand around a tree that has brocks labled with "friends forever", "For the team!", and so on... I'm gonna go ahead and guess that Rin pretty much makes a habit of disrespecting these guys and/or fucking them over.

The water is beautiful, the music is upbeat, I love the opening for both style & song choice, and the art style is cute & easy on the eyes. The outro is as great as the intro... I just don't understand why there is a small snippet that shows them dancing in a club with gimps lol. All in all, this appears to be the start of an awesome summer anime!

Enjoy!

Episode 1 - Reunion at the Starting Block

Whoa!

Dudeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee,

I haven't posted in 5EVAR!
Mostly because Independence Day means.... holiday family fun-ish kinda days with my boyfriend's family. (My family pretty much thinks holidays are absolute time consuming, nonrefundable days worth of bullshit.)
I must say, I did in fact enjoy myself but at times... it felt like it was going on too long. If my attention isn't being occupied at all times, I immediately get bored or annoyed. It's no fun. Nobody likes that girl, with the angry face in the corner of the room on her phone - trust me.

That being said, uhm, yea... Hi!
I've been enjoying my solitude. Me, myself, my best friend, my boyfriend, no worries or responsibilities, no work... just pure relaxation; for now.

I'll be back before the end of the week.
This blog is like my baby, even if no one else pays attention to it... I still love it.

BTW: I did make a Youtube video of The Sims... it's pretty pathetic but whatever. It's all fun & games anyway lol

Burgers & Zombies!

Omg, omg, omg! Guess what I just found out? AMC is currently holding a marathon of the Walking Dead from today (July 4th) to July 7th.

It's not just any marathon, oh no. This is the Season 4 Preview Marathon! Hosted by Kevin Smith, this marathon will include Season 1 (Normal and Black & White versions) today, Season 2 (July 5th), and Season 3 on the 6th & 7th - all beginning at 1pm.

Kevin Smith will be speaking with the cast & crew of the show along with sharing behind the scenes footage of Season 4.

Tune in now! 'Cause... yea, it's 1:40pm EST where I'm located.

Time To Play With Life!

I alway complain about being bored.
Well... aside from getting some new games on gamefly recently... I've been playing The Sims.
to be exact >=3

I haven't played too much because I just got it yesterday but I have already created my own character and now she has her own (shitty) resort! I think I'll add pictures to this post a little later (I'm on my way to work).

You know what I was thinking though? I wanna do some sim challenges. Nothing too long, like the famous Legacy challenges, but something to fulfill my need of purpose. The Sims is always fun for me but sometimes, it feels like the amount of, uhm, "freeness" you get gives me almost no reason to play other than to do... weird stuff lol. A lot of times, I just wind up being a professional sim maker. I'm pretty good at making sims look realistic without any CC.

So... yea, I think I'm gonna play through and practice on my own (so I can get used to Island Paradise). Once I figure out the new ways to kill sims, lol, and how to use all the water equipment... and how much skill you need for each, I'm gonna start a challenge and hopefully post it both to here & my YouTube channel.

I already have a few TS3 videos on my YouTube, mostly from University Life if you wanna check'em out. I've gotten waaaaaaaay better at Photoshop & video editing since then, so... my new videos won't be as crappy as the one's I have up now.

Does anybody do sim challenges? What are your favorite?

App Spotlight | Shopular

I'm crazy about phone apps. If I can download it and it'll fit on my SD Card; I'll at least try it once.

So... I came across this app called Shopular one day when I was trying to find a Groupon app. I used Groupon in high school & since then, I've gotten a new phone - had to reinstall everything. I looked at it in the app store & noticed, "Hey! I don't need a login for this app?! What the fuck?!"

Most apps are annoying as hell & beg you to sign up or login with your Twitter/Facebook. Not this one, hun.

So, I downloaded it. I've been using it for about 4 months & I love this shit.

Shopular is a sales & coupon app that works both from your location and your "favorite" stores. When you begin, they ask you to set up a list of stores you love or frequent simply by selecting a star next to it (You can remove or add stores at any time from the settings).

After you set up your stores, you have the choice to add your location or not but it's a useful addition. If you add it, any time you go out - the app while display coupons & sales happening around you in your notification bar!

This notification bar is frequently active. It will display sales and coupons once daily or when a sale or coupon is coming to an end. If your data plan is awesome, your notifications will be spot on.

Also, there's no sketchy business. The coupons are current & actually work. Some can be scanned from your phone at the register or they have codes as an alternative. They'll let you know if the coupons can be combined or not ^_^

So Much To Watch | SO Little Time

I'm starting school at the end of August & I've made the conscious decision to decrease my work load.

I'm tired.

When I say tired, I don't mean sleepy. I'm tired like, every day that I wake up and have to go to work; I dread my existence. I'm stressed out, overworked & under paid. Between trying to pay a massive lump sum for rent, constantly paying out of pocket for other people's mistakes, and literally throwing away cash on my boyfriend's shitty car - I'm pooped.

I can't do this anymore. It's driving me absolutely fucking insane.

The good thing is, I work for an agency... which basically means that I can deny and accept as many or as little jobs as I want to; I decided on working twice a week.

Now that I have more time to myself... I'm gonna catch up on all the things I missed.

ANIME COMES FIRST.

To be honest, I haven't watched too many "popular" anime's outside of Dragonball & Sailor Moon. I kinda stray away from anything that seems to appeal to large crowds. I like short anime's, no more than 25 episodes, that I can get into and it leaves me with a choice to read the corresponding manga or not, AND I don't feel pressured to do it.

I'm feeling adventurous though. I heard that Chobits is a good way to start if you're someone like me (transitioning from short anime's to long anime's with a large fan base). From there through the end of 2013, I'm gonna watch as many anime's as possible. Also, Studio Ghibli movies. I've only seen Spirited Away!

Whatever the case, I'm gonna hopefully finish Aku No Hana tonight so I can post my review on it & delete my previous review.

Time to go to work =(
